Import video
Add files and folders, and check how each video was recognized.
The library holds the source files of the project. Import from the menu, with the Import button, or by dragging files or folders into the window.
Import files or folders
- Choose File > Import Video... or click Import.
- Select videos or whole folders. Folders are searched with their subfolders.
- Select an item in the library to preview it or click Add to Queue.
Supported files include MOV, MP4, M4V, HEVC, MKV, WebM, AVI, AVCHD (.mts, .m2ts), MPEG transport streams (.ts), MXF, MPEG (.mpg), DV and 3GP. Files with unusual extensions, such as drone proxies, are recognized by their content.
Files that are not imported
Nothing is skipped silently. After an import, a report lists every item that was left out and why:
- Insta360 .insv/.insp and GoPro .360: unstitched camera originals. Export a stitched 360 video from the camera app, then import that file.
- Photos and image sequences: VR Converter Studio converts video. Encode a sequence as a movie, for example ProRes or HEVC.
- Files without video, empty folders and files that cannot be read.
How a video is recognized
The Detected row in the Inspector shows the projection, the 3D layout and how they were found, in this order:
- Metadata in the file (Google Spherical Video, Apple projected media, MV-HEVC spatial video).
- File name conventions used by headset players, such as
_180_LR,_360_TBor_fisheye. - Picture analysis: matching halves for 3D, the image circle of fisheye lenses, and the left and right edges of 2:1 frames, which meet only in a real 360.
- Shape of the frame, as a last resort.
A flat film in 2:1 format is no longer taken for a 360. You can always change the source format in the Inspector.
Use the library
- Search, sort and filter when a project contains many videos.
- Press Space on a selected item to open Quick Look.
- Use Reveal in Finder to find the original file.
Canon RAW .crm files must be converted to ProRes with Canon's tools before preview and export.
